Web Content Engineer
Makena Technologies is an exciting new entertainment and communications company focused on online interaction. We are known for our groundbreaking consumer service called "There" (www.there.com), the first online destination where members can meet people, hang out with friends, play games, explore, have fun and even help build their own world - all in a spectacular 3D graphical environment.
Three years after its public launch, There has a highly engaged and loyal member base. "There" offers a rich array of community-oriented activities, many of which have been initiated by the members themselves. There is a society in itself; complete with its own economy in which many members have created their own enterprises. Recent advancements in our unique technology platform will allow for even more innovative ways for members to interact, create their own spaces, and even earn in-world currency.
Given our strong position, the explosion of online interaction in the marketplace and abundant opportunities for enhancing our 3D world, our company is poised for dramatic growth. New investment and hiring have lead to many improvements in the product, which are leading to significant increases in membership, revenue, and excitement about the product and the company.
To meet this growth, we're expanding our engineering staff by adding a Web Content Engineer in our Laguna Beach office in Southern California.
Responsibilities:

As a Web Content engineer, you will work closely with marketing and other engineers to produce new or modified Web content for the service using HTML, XML, XSL, CSS, Javascript, and Flash. Some examples of the work are:

Production of new 2D content and programming for new features.
Production of new 2D content and programming for improvements to existing features.
Changes to existing 2D content for new or improved features.
Production of new 2D content for marketing promotions, both regularly scheduled and opportunistic one-offs.
You may also work with other engineers to use Javascript, etc to implement "Web 2.0" technologies as appropriate for the There site.
You'll also communicate regularly with Marketing, Engineering, and Operations, and should have excellent communication skills.
Required Skills:
As a successful candidate, you will have the following experience and skills:

1-2 years experience with modern 2D web languages such as XSL, CSS, and XML.
1-2 years experience with HTML.
Some experience with Flash, or Javascript, or Java.
Some experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, PHP, etc.
Some experience with programming languages such as C++, C#, etc
Some demonstrable experience in making web sites, which are attractive and usable.
1-2 years of formal job experience is preferred, but we will accept college graduates with no experience who have produced web sites on a part-time or freelance basis. All candidates should be prepared to submit examples of their work.
Since some tasks may involve the updating of live production data, the qualified candidate should be capable of following established organizational and change management procedures to ensure that changes are thoroughly communicated and tested before the production environment is updated.
This position is located in Makena's brand new Southern California office in Laguna Beach, California.
