There.com Takes CosmoGIRL! Virtual
CosmoGIRL! Becomes First Teen Consumer Magazine to Enter Virtual World
SAN MATEO, Calif. (October 10, 2007) - Makena Technologies, creator of the popular social virtual world There.com, has partnered with CosmoGIRL! magazine to extend the popular U.S. teen publication into its virtual world. CosmoGIRL! is the first teen magazine to extend its brand into the virtual world category, which is consistent with the magazine's continuous innovation to remain sharply in tune with its readers' interests. The CosmoGIRL! Village will open in There.com on November 20, 2007.
The virtual worlds space continues to grow in popularity, especially within the teen market. eMarketer just released a report stating that 24 percent of the 34.3 million children and teen Internet users in the United States will use virtual worlds at least once a month this year, and by 2011, that number will jump to 53 percent.
"CosmoGIRL! is an ideal fit with There.com's user demographics, since teen girls are an important segment of our members," said Michael Wilson, CEO of Makena Technologies. "There.com is all about fashion, socialization and shared activities, which aligns perfectly with the main interests of CosmoGIRL!'s readers."
The CosmoGIRL! Village will be located along a coastal area in There.com, where members will be able to enjoy dance parties, fashion shows, spa makeovers, photo booths, live events, rich media and shopping for virtual and real-world clothing and accessories.
"With The CosmoGIRL! Village we are able to offer our readers everything they love from the real world in the virtual world," said CosmoGIRL! VP/Publisher Kristine Welker. "This is a great opportunity for us to introduce new and exciting ways to engage young people today with their favorite trends and brands."
There.com and The CosmoGIRL! Village are available, at no cost, to anyone ages 13 and up with a PC and an Internet connection.
